All our classrooms are carefully and lovingly designed to welcome your children in a warm and safe space. They encourage children to explore and be creative in a bright, clean environment.
We have designed and implemented a strong, rich, and creative emergent preschool curriculum. This curriculum centers around inspiring a child’s love of learning through play. We accomplish this by using every play moment as an opportunity to teach and allow children to be creative, curious, adventurous and inquisitive. Our learn through play philosophy is also supported by language enrichment, artistic expression and with hands-on experiences. At Children of the Island, we strengthen all developmental domains (physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and artistic) while promoting respect of self, respect for others, and respect for our surrounding environment and community. Children form an understanding of themselves and their place in the world through their interactions and relationships with others. We place a strong focus on social collaboration and working in groups, where each child is an equal participant whose thoughts and questions are valued.
Our dedicated and passionate educators encourage and promote a sense of independence and autonomy by providing each child with varied ways and opportunities to experience, explore, and interact with the world around them. Our activities are tailored to meet the individual needs and personality of each child. This is all provided for within a safe, joyful, loving, and unhurried environment.
Our classrooms materials and routines are designed to support our curriculum and encourage a learning through play approach. Learning through play has been identified as vital to a child’s early development and is key in laying the foundations for: learning to read and write, learning mathematics, science, technology and provides a foundation for the arts.
Infants learn a lot about the world around them through their senses, which is why exploration is critical to their development. We have designed our classrooms with safety in mind and filled them full of engaging toys and activities that offer a whole range of sensory experiences. Both rooms can welcome twelve infants from birth to 18 months.
Our Infant Program is designed to care, nurture and stimulate infants cognitively through individual routines, physical development and health, language and social emotional learning. Each infant is assigned a certified educator. That educator will have 4 children in her care. From the child’s first day the educator will work in partnership with parents with the goal of ensuring consistent care and a trusting reciprocal relationship with families. Personal care routines (toileting, feeding, and napping experiences) with a child’s assigned educator builds a secure and trusting relationship by fulfilling the infants need for unhurried, one to one dialogue and warm individual attention.
It is important to support a toddlers natural sense of independence and autonomy by providing each child with varied ways and opportunities to experience, explore, and interact with the world around them. Our activities and classrooms are tailored to their abilities and needs. Both rooms can welcome twelve toddlers aged 18 to 36 months.
Toddlers will experiment with food ingredients, learn to count, formulate sentences, discover their musical and artistic abilities, differentiate between their emotions and learn about the world around them. Our caring educators will work with toddlers to help build the foundations of their physical, social, emotional, cognitive development. They will support and encourage children during potty training with regular washroom routines. This is all provided for within a safe, joyful, loving, and unhurried environment.
