Half Day Preschool

We have created a fun and educational half day morning bilingual French/English preschool program that runs Monday thru Friday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm between September and July. Our program follows the Sooke 62 school district calendar http://www.sd62.bc.ca/wp-content/uploads/sites/11/2015/11/Calendars_2017-18.pdf . Our group consists of 20 children and two Early Childhood Educators.

Curriculum Overview

Children come to our centre as individuals with their unique blend of intelligences, personalities, temperaments, talents, interests, and learning styles. Our challenge is to create a learning environment that nurtures and supports all types of learners.

We have designed and implemented a strong, rich, and creative developmental curriculum all applied in a bilingual French/English environment. Our main focus is to inspire a love of learning and a joy of discovery through language, artistic expression and learning through play with hands on experiences. We strengthen all developmental domains–physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and artistic while promoting respect of self and respect for each other. Our dedicated and passionate educators will encourage and promote a sense of independence and autonomy while providing each child with varied ways and opportunities to experience, explore, and interact with the world around them in a safe, joyful, loving, and unhurried environment.
Our classroom space, materials and routines are designed to support our curriculum and encourage autonomy. Each day, children have ample opportunities to be engaged with materials and experiences that stimulate learning through play. Playing to learn curriculum provides a foundation for learning to read and write, learning mathematics, science, technology, and a foundation for the arts.
Our educators adapt to each child’s individual developmental level and needs. They encourage children through modelling, guidance, and teaching as they work with the children to stimulate their interests, build upon their strengths and bolster the areas that need development.
Educator-guided activities are well balanced with play and free choice activities.
A variety of both open-ended and structured work/play activities are offered every day.

Physical activity

Outdoor play is a big part of our program, which allows children to develop on a social, physical and imaginative level that nourishes a child’s mind, body and spirit. Children will have the opportunity to let their imagination soar in an open area that features 4 different environments to play within, and a never-ending list of activities.

Our beautiful tree house is usually the first thing your child will notice. Hidden amongst the trees, our tree house sets the tone for all the adventures that await, and is the “place to be” during our outdoor time. Children can learn balance and perception in our nature inspired obstacle course. Children can also create beautiful artwork on one of the many chalk boards.

Children enjoy exploring the many local amenities that are all within close walking distance. We enjoy nature walks on the galloping goose, walks to the local recreation centre to enjoy a play at the park or weekly visits to the library for story time and discovering new French books.

We encourage and model creative, co-operative, social, and physical play. It lifts the spirit and builds the body. The children grow and develop in every domain by engaging with one another.

Nutrition - Hot lunch and morning snack provided

We understand the benefits of providing a well-balanced diet and our on site chef meticulously prepares all of our meals in house. It’s with great pride and more than 13 years of experience working in a hospital kitchen that’s provided her with the knowledge to cater to many different dietary needs. We provide children with fresh fruits and vegetables each day. Our daily menu is posted everyday at the front entrance as well as on our website. We are a nut free facility!
